Methanol Testing for Marine Fuel - ISO 6583:2024 Compliance
As the maritime industry accelerates its transition toward low-carbon alternatives, methanol has emerged as a leading candidate for sustainable marine fuel. To support this global shift, the newly introduced ISO 6583:2024 standard defines the quality, purity, and safety requirements for methanol at the point of custody transfer in marine applications.
ISO 6583:2024 – Marine Methanol Grades
ISO 6583:2024 – Marine Methanol specifies three categories of marine methanol:
- Grade A (MMA): Includes additional requirements for lubricity and particle count, ensuring compatibility with advanced fuel systems.
- Grade B (MMB): Aligned with the specification issued by the International Methanol Producers & Consumers Association (IMPCA), widely recognized in global trade.
- Grade C (MMC): Allows for wider tolerances on certain quality characteristics, offering greater flexibility while maintaining safe operational performance.
